Safety Tips

As they say, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.
When installing one, follow the product instructions. The bar side of
those gates with expanding pressure bars should be installed away from
baby. The gate must be anchored securely, always closed when you pass
through it. But you must never ever leave the baby unattended.
Simple routines such as having emergency phone numbers and plans, and
placing such in accessible and visible areas, would come in handy. Of
course any amount of prevention would come to naught if other people
in the house do keep up with these safety measures. Make sure that your
kids’ babysitters and other caregivers are have their share of
the responsibility. Lastly, always keep first-aid kits and supplies
on hand.
Other relevant practical safety tips:
• Set up the gate to the letter of the manufacturer’s instructions.
The space underneath should not be more than 5 cm to avoid possible
entrapment. Make sure that the gate opens and closes the way it is supposed
to.
• Do not install a gate very close to the bottom of the stairs
as your child may use this to climb atop the gate.
• Make sure that the gate has no trip hazard at the top of the
stairs.
• Make sure that the safety gate or barrier is firmly placed
in position.
• There is no need to attract your baby by hanging toys on the
gate. Your child should not be allowed to play or climb on the gate.
• In transferring gates to some other areas within the house,
make sure that the cups or buffers of the gate are fixed or placed firmly
according to instructions.
