Some More Tips

Sense your child's bowel and bladder schedules, keeping an eye on his activities and behavior so you can better guide him. Start a bathroom routine like have him sit in his potty chair for 2 to 4 minutes every hour or so, particularly after a meal, snack, or nap. Beyond that duration and nothing happens, try again later. Otherwise you will bore your child or make him lose interest in going to the potty at all even before he absorbs the procedure in his system.

Be sure to be patient and do not demote your child when he fails to make it right especially during the initial stages of your lessons. Reward him with lots of hugs, kisses, and surprises for his every genuine effort and every successful attempt. Be sensitive as well. There are kids who won't go when someone is looking.

Since it's best you stay away from diapers, expect many wet nights for several weeks or even months. However, try to teach your child to urinate before he dozes off to help reduce the chance of bedwetting. Use nighttime protection. There are many products available to de-discomfort your child as he goes through this important phase of his toddler stage.
