About Playground Equipment

The mere sight of a swing, a slide, a see-saw or any playground equipment is enough to elicit joy and excitement in a child. In fact, having fun with playground equipment is one of the greatest pleasures of being a kid. What kid does not long to spend his day in the playground with all the playground equipment at his disposal?
A playground is an improved area designed, equipped and set aside for children to play freely. A typical playground consists of large open spaces for team games and smaller areas for playground equipment for younger children. While most playgrounds are outdoors, indoor playgrounds in homes and recreation centers are also popular especially during days when an outdoor playground is not advisable. There are several types of playgrounds. In a creative playground, the design of the playground equipment and site layout is based on a theme such as a railway, a pirate ship or outer space. The main play element in a water playground is water. This may take the form of a wading pool, spray pad or water slide. A hard surface playground is a play area in which a hard surface like asphalt is required to play games like basketball. A natural playground utilizes the natural environment for play and education. A traditional playground has no specific theme and provides common playground equipment such as swings, climbing structures and see-saws, to name a few.
Playground equipment is basically a fabricated structure intended for play by children located at a playground. Playground equipment such as see-saws, climbers dominate most playgrounds. In the past years, technological advancements have change the structure and appearance of some equipment and play structures have combined many play elements into one piece of playground equipment. Modern playgrounds feature playground equipment such as rock climbing walls, swing sets, walking bridges, jungle gyms, wave slides, crawl tunnels, steering wheels. Playground developers have thought of everything not only to entertain but to stimulate and inspire children.
