Frequently Asked Questions
When can I give my baby a bath?
You'll want to stick to sponge baths with a lukewarm washcloth for the first week or so, until your baby's umbilical cord stump falls off and the area heals. After that you really need to bathe a newborn only once or twice a week. (Babies just don't get that dirty until they start crawling around). Also, remember not to fill the tub too much — a few inches of water is all you need.
What soap can I use for my baby?
Use a soft or mild soap (hypoallergenic).
My child loved having a bath. Now I cannot understand why he refuses to take one?
Whenever a child develops a fear, it is crucial to accept it. Never resort to force, because it can have a long lasting hatred towards bathing. Give up bathing, if necessary and switch to a sponge bath temporarily. Try to analyze the root cause of the fear. Whether he slipped or hurt his head or urinated in the water or whether soap went in his eyes. If you can pinpoint the source of your child's aversion to taking bath, talk to him and tell him you understand him. Comfort him as far as possible. A child's fear passes off as quickly as it arrives, if it is handled tactfully. Divert his mind by making him play with bath toys. Make bath a fun time. Focus his attention on playing and not on having a bath.
Can I use tap water for my baby's bath?
Babies should be bathed with lukewarm water since their bodies are not able to tolerate temperature changes that well. It is best for the parent to test the water first before putting your baby in it.
What toys can your recommend for my baby's bath?
There are so many toys that your baby can enjoy when taking a bath. Rubber duckies, water paints, crazy foams, animal figures that swim around, even toy ships and submarines that can sail around your baby.
